AOL Browser Tweak
I get a lot of requests for help from AOL users who can only save images
as ".art" files, rather than as the JPEGs or GIFs they actually
are. This occurs because by default, the AOL browser compresses images
and only allows you to save them in the .art format.
The good news is that you
can correct this behavior. The even better news is that you will finally
view the web as it was intended -- in full color. Yes AOL users, you
have not been viewing most images at full quality, and the difference
may amaze you.*
This will take 60 seconds,
it's immediate, you can stay online, and there is no need for an anesthetic,
deodorant, or chocolate fix. (Note: Menu items for AOL 6.0 may be in
different locations than those listed below.)
Click MY AOL at the top of the screen
Click PREFERENCES.
Click WWW
Click WEB GRAPHICS
Un-check USE COMPRESSED GRAPHICS
Click APPLY
All done... Except...
If you return to a previously
visited page, AOL will load the old compressed graphic. So let's clear
out your temp files while you are still in MY AOL - PREFERENCES:
Click GENERAL
Click DELETE FILES
Click APPLY
All done. Now explore the Internet and enjoy the show.
*Additionally, many image
editors do not even recognize the ".art" extension. If you've
been downloading ArtToday images from an AOL browser and haven't been
able to view them, that's probably why.
